On Monday, Year 5 ventured off to Raveningham Hall Estate, to have a great day out discovering where food comes from. We spent the day with Jake, the Estate manager, looking at the kitchen garden, identifying all different types of vegetables and the varying species being grown. We also learned about the different ways of managing insects and birds who like to feast on the crops. We went into the herb and medicinal garden where we smelt and tasted some delicious plants – the mint was amazing!
We had a trailer ride out to see the cows and calves who were gorgeous and very hungry!!
In the afternoon we went out to one of the five and a half thousand acres of field to learn abut crops that are grown on a much larger scale. This included looking at barley and identifying many different varieties of grasses. We saw several hares hopping around and a mother pheasant keeping her young warm beneath her feathers. All in all a fabulous day!!
