On Saturday 10th October 2015, our U9 Mixed Football team made their way to Saint Felix School to represent Beccles Primary Academy at the annual football tournament.
Teams were split into 2 leagues, with the top 2 teams going through to the semi finals. In our league we were up against Albert Pye, Saint Felix, The Abbey and Gunton.
Our first game was against The Abbey (overall runners up). The game started off evenly with both teams showing excellent footballing skills but it was The Abbey who took the lead with a shot that slipped out of Calum’s hands. Luke P and Luke M proved to be a great partnership up front with Luke P providing a tremendous through ball to Luke M who had his shot saved before the final whistle was blown. Score ending 1-0 to The Abbey.
Our second game was against Albert Pye 2. This time we lined up with Kye in goal, Dominic, Sophie and Faye playing in a defensive position, Korey in midfield and Luke P and Luke M upfront. Albert Pye took possession early on but Kye managed to pull off 2 fantastic saves to keep us in the game. Luke M later on managed to break through the defence, slotting the ball home in the bottom corner. Korey also made some dashing runs but couldn’t quite find the net. Score ending 1-0 to Beccles Primary Academy.
The third game was against Gunton Primary, Mr Garrood expected nothing less then a 15-0 win! Again, both teams starting off strong with great movement and passing skills, but it was Gunton who took a 1-0 lead. Sophie, Dominic and Jordan made fantastic interceptions during the game to keep it alive. Luke P, Luke M and Calum provided a fantastic triple partnership up top which allowed Luke M to provide the finishing touch from a Luke P cross. Although it wasn’t quite a 15-0 win, the overall quality shown in the game was good enough! Score ending Gunton 1 – 1 Beccles Primary Academy.
Our fourth and final game was against the hosts, Saint Felix. From the whistle Kye and Korey provided good one touch passing between them to move the ball into the opponents half, but there was no finishing touch at this point. Jordan provided great back up in goal to prevent Saint Felix from taking the lead, with Beccles Primary Academy keeping possession throughout most of the game. Again, it was Luke M who was able to provide the goal to finish the game 1 – 0 to Beccles Primary Academy.
Finishing joint fourth in our league by 1 point wasn’t quite enough to make it through the groups, however, the team stayed behind to cheer on local school Albert Pye in the final, who ended up winning the tournament.
Although the weather wasn’t so fantastic to start with, it didn’t affect a fantastic afternoon enjoyed by all.
