Sainsbury’s Quicksticks Hockey Tournament

On Wednesday 30th September 2015, our Year 5 Quicksticks team travelled to East Point Academy to represent the school at the first schools sports tournament of the year, Sainsbury’s Quicksticks Hockey.

For the first time as Beccles Primary Academy, our Quicksticks team wore our new dazzling Nike kit, sponsored by Mactech Engineering & Inspection.

We set out with a strong team for our first game against Grove Primary, Scott and Grace sitting at the back, with Jack and Charlie ready to take on the opposing teams defenders.  The score was kept even for the first 3 minutes, but due to some excellent dribbling skills from Grove, they took the lead.  Ryan came on as a 4th minute substitute and provided great back up to Grace in defence.  However it was Grove who won the game 3-0.

Next up was Woods Loke Primary, who ended up winning overall.  Again Beccles Primary Academy started off strong keeping the overall winners to a very close game.  In the 5th minute Woods Loke’s attacker broke through the defence and with great accuracy, hit a shot towards our goal, but Scott tracked back fantastically to pull of an amazing acrobatic goal line scoop to prevent Woods Loke from taking the lead! Although a great effort from Beccles Primary, the game ended 2-0 to Woods Loke.

With the last game against Mr Garrood’s old school, Gunton Primary, the team went into the game with their game faces on. It was end to end for the first 2 minutes, some great play from both schools, but it was Beccles Primary Academy who had the first opportunity of the game, with Jack just missing by fractions. Gunton then took a 4-0 lead due to some great 2 touch play. Due to the teams ‘never give up’ attitude, Scott managed to pull one back for the Reds, but it was Gunton who ended up winning the game 5-1.

Although no games were won, Beccles Primary Academy showed great sportsmanship shaking hands and congratulating all 3 opponents. It was a very enjoyable afternoon, the children did us all proud!
